CedarWorks donates 20,000 cedar seedlings in May

ReCedaring effort provides seedlings throughout Maine

Every year, through its ReCedaring Program, CedarWorks donates thousands of Northern White Cedar seedlings to small woodlot owners and environmental groups in its home state of Maine.

All of CedarWorks’ outdoor playsets, playhouses and backyard furniture are made from Northern White Cedar which is uniquely suited to outdoor applications such as playsets, fencing, and decking as well as being quick-growing and native to North America.

As part of its commitment to the environment, CedarWorks believes it is important to replace some of the wood it uses in its playset through the ReCedaring program. This May, CedarWorks donated 20,000 seedlings including 11,000 shipped directly to the Upper St. John River Organization (USJRO) in Aroostook County, the northernmost county in Maine and a natural habitat for Northern White Cedar. USJRO distributes the seedlings to a variety of local conservation and environmental organizations to get the seedlings planted quickly throughout the river valley.

In addition to the organizations in Aroostook County, thousands of seedlings are planted by woodlot owners and environmental organizations statewide. Since the program began, CedarWorks has donated more than 500,000 seedlings. The seedling program is on of three giving programs funded and administered by CedarWorks.
